The SANTA MARIA DE COLOMBO, a replica of Columbus’s flagship, was built in Madeira’s Câmara de Lobos by Robert Wijntje and local craftsmen in 1997-1998. It showcased Madeira wine at Expo 98 in Lisbon, attracting 97,016 visitors in 25 days.

This was actually excellent, I cannot believe they don't market it more actively. We only knew about it when we spotted the ship at sea and thought we were hallucinating as it is quite a startling sight! The boat is beautifully built and well captained. Crew came round with Madeira wine and honey cake about two thirds of the trip in. We saw whales. It is really great to do on a sunny day, I strongly recommend it.

So delighted to manage this trip on the last day before a 6-week maintenance closure. It was such a good morning with lovely views, sighting of a small pod of dolphins and the surprising extra of Madeira wine and cake. It exceeded our expectations.
