Tour Itinerary
Pico dos Barcelos Viewpoint
High above the hotel zone is a tree topped belvedere. Pico dos Barcelos has an observation point on the edge of Funchal, it is 355m (1165 ft). There’s a magnificent view across Funchal from the top of the viewpoint. The nuns valley tour will then hen take the old narrow, very winding road, up through the eucalyptus forest until Eira do Serrado, absorbing the picturesque view of the peaks.
Câmara de Lobos
It is one of the island’s most atmospheric fishing villages. The village was named after monk seals which frequent visitors to the harbour. The centre of the village, with its whitewashed houses, shops and bar where you can taste the local drink poncha, remains instantly likeable. The stony beach is filled with colourful beached fishing boats. Winston Churchill choose this village to paint in 1949.
Cabo Girão Sky Walk
The tour ascends to the world’s second-highest sea cliff (580m), offering breathtaking views of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. Erosion has sculpted caves and terraces, with locals cultivating picturesque terraced gardens along the coast.

Toboggan Ride or Visit Monte
The Monte Toboggan involves sliding in a wicker basket mounted on wooden runners. It covers the 2 km (1.24 miles) descent from Monte to Funchal in 10 minutes. The trip is enjoyed by thousands every year, drawn by the exhilarating experience of traveling at speed down a public highway on a wooden sled. Ernest Hemingway once described it as “exhilarating.” A cushioned seat softens the ride, with passengers in the safe hands of toboggan drivers, who steer from the rear using their rubber-soled boots as brakes. Madeiran Tobogganing, invented as a form of transportation in 1850, offers a unique and thrilling way to experience the island.
