Tour Itinerary

São Vicente

Sao Vicente, nestled on the North Coast between basalt lava rows, is a quaint town with narrow streets and white old houses. Its 17th-century mother church stands out. Nearby, a park with Madeira’s native plants and volcanic caves offer a unique tour experience.

Ponta Delgada

Head through the pretty São Vicente village to reach the lovely Ponta Delgada. Surrounded by green mountains, this calm fishing village has the Bom Jesus church by the sea and a modern lido complex. Passing through “Boaventura,” enjoy the beautiful views.

Cabanas Viewpoint

From Boaventura, the old road to Arco de Sao Jorge is one of the most dramatic in Madeira. Passing through an old tunnel we reach Arco de São Jorge, a lush farmland with vineyards. After several hairpin bends we reach, Cabanas Viewpoint, also known as Miradouro da Beira da Quinta. The houses of Arco de São Jorge and the Rose garden lay small and far below. You can admire the beautiful north-western coast line as far as Porto Moniz.

Santana A-Framed Houses

Next, visit the charming village of Santana, showcasing domestic and agricultural richness. Green terraced fields and orchards adorn the landscape, with unique triangular thatched buildings once used as cow sheds. Explore their spacious interiors.

Porto da Cruz

On the North Coast, nestled at the foot of Penha d’Aguia rock amid steep terraced slopes. Discover the active sugar mill, scenic sea promenade, maze-like alleys, and evolving café scene, renowned for its wine.

Ponta de São Lourenço

Ponta de São Lourenço marks the easternmost point of the island. The climate around Caniçal and São Lourenço resembles that of Porto Santo. Unique vegetation and stunning rock formations adorn this area, offering simultaneous views of the north and south coasts, with Porto Santo visible on clear days.

We went to explore the other side of the island. Julia picked us up from our hotel and we were off. Only 4 to our jeep us and another couple. Julia explained everything she was so easy to talk to and was so informative. I’m not the best when I’m not driving but I felt completely safe with her. We went to places that on our own we would never have found. The highlight of my day had to be the off road section...

Fantastic day out. We really enjoyed it. Older or taller people probably would prefer the interior seats. The back is bumpy! 😆

We had a fabulous day. It started from the moment our driver Miguel picked us up very promptly from our hotel in Funchal. Our whole family immediately warmed to Miguel, adopting him as our designated driver and trusted tour guide. We valued his local knowledge and good humour and he made our day extra special...

This was an excellent trip, some off-road tracks as well which was fun, our driver was really good and tried not to use main roads so lots of small, steep windy roads. We had local experiences of Poncho, 2 stops for this, a small rum factory with tasters and a lunch stop. We paid for our own drinks and lunch. The driver we had was Gerhard, he was very knowledgeable...

We had a great day out with Diego our driver. We went to some fabululous places and he was so knowledgeable. There were plenty of stops for photos and we could take our time. He made our day fun and enjoyable. We stopped at the rum distillery and there was plenty of time to sample the rum plus a knowledgeable talk on the process to make it. We would definitely recommend doing this trip withn Green Devils and Diego
