Tour Itinerary
Pico dos Barcelos Viewpoint
High above the hotel zone is a tree topped belvedere. Pico dos Barcelos has an observation point on the edge of Funchal, it is 355m (1165 ft). There’s a magnificent view across Funchal from the top of the viewpoint. The nuns valley tour will then hen take the old narrow, very winding road, up through the eucalyptus forest until Eira do Serrado, absorbing the picturesque view of the peaks.
Eira do Serrado Viewpoint
The viewpoint at Eira do Serrado offers breathtaking views over Curral das Freiras, a valley encased by steep peaks. Previously thought to be a volcanic crater, its unique shape actually results from erosion. The area is rich in agriculture, with terraces of wine, fruits, vegetables, and sweet chestnut trees below.
Pico do Arieiro
Ascend on the Madeira Peaks & Gardens Tour towards Pico Arieiro, the island’s third highest peak at 1818m. Experience the transition from lush woodland to rugged cliffs, offering stunning vistas and rare Madeira junipers on descent.
Terreiro da Luta Viewpoint
Leaving Pico Areiro, in the direction of the mountains, passing through a dense forest of mimosas trees, reaching this impressive hillside monument, which overlooks the whole bay of Funchal. It consists of a massive monument of the Virgin Maria, lady of peace. The monument was created in 1927. It is over 5 mts (17 ft) high and weighs 20 ton.
Botanical Gardens
Nestled between northern mountains and southern seas, Funchal’s Botanical Garden spans 8 hectares near the city center. Home to 3,000 global plant species, including 200 endemic to Macaronesia, it boasts over 15,000 specimens and a rare bird sanctuary. The excursion ends in front of your Cruiseship .
